Intellectual Property: Trade secrets

Mariners will know what it's like trying to determine location without GPS,  Taking celestial sights with a sextant is one thing, but then having to reduce them using nautical almanacs without error - while you have to steer a yacht in a gale - is another.

"I've been there," says Richard Hoptroff.  "On one transatlantic, a wave went down the hatch and fried our electrics, including the GPS.  We had a reliable backup.  A sextant.  It worked, but it was hard work.  I was determined to make it easier."

Now it's just two button presses.  And a sextant (not supplied).
