The Hotblack Salah is a unique timepiece for Muslims, particularly when they travel.
The top dial ticks seconds with an impressive 15 second/year accuracy. But press the top pusher, and it points the direction to Makkah. The left dial shows perpetual date. The bottom dial and pusher select the time shown on the centre hands: the current time or the time of Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib or Isha prayers.
How does it know the direction to Makkah and the correct prayer times? It contains a magnetic compass, and a Bluetooth connection. Every 14 days, or when you change your location, simply connect to your smartphone to automatically update the prayer times and approximate Qibla angle. Options are given for most of the common conventions for calculating Qibla and prayer times. This Qibla indication is accurate to within about 5 degrees.
Currently compatible with iPhone and Android (download the free App now), and available in right-handed and left-handed versions. (Left-handed version has pushers on the left.)
In vertical-brushed, black-PVD coated stainless steel with a sapphire crystal, the Hotblack range is waterproof to 5 atmospheres, 15 second/year accuracy and a 5 year battery. The hands and hour digits are coated in superluminova. The calendar is perpetual and automatically adjusts for daylight saving and leap seconds. When you order, be sure to specify if you want the pushers on the right (for right-handed people) or the left (for left-handed people).
